Number of Paid Staff 1-5 Paid staff Approximate Yearly Turnover No formal income: Main source of income International organisations Organisation ProfileWe started this organization as members of the retired civil service and development in the Amuria district. We realized that there was a need to come up with a community based organization that could respond to needs of the communities faced with problems of war, diseases, poverty, cultural beliefs, that left them in deprivation and vulnerability situation.
We began with strengthening the institutional capacity of the organization, resource mobilization, strengthening collaboration with district stake holders, community mobilization to join the organization and we have had a total of 360 registered members to join.
Since we found ACDO, households have been trained in modern agric practices and support. A total of 29 Heifers have been distributed to the communities affected by war and disease. We have supported TOTs to carry out training to about 520 beneficiaries which has led to improved nutrition in the identified communities.
Currently we are engaged in agricultural livelihoods and HIV/AIDs sensitization.
Our organization has had success in the following; • 500 house holds trained in modern agric practices and supported with in puts • Horticulture practice promoted in 200 households • The organization has formed 20 groups of which each have 30 members • Identification and training of 40 horticultural TOTs, these also got training in crop agronomy. • Sensitization of communities and out reaches to PLW HIV/AIDs.
The organization has been faced with the long dry spell which has caused loss of crop yields and food shortage; this has hindered achievement of the intended objective. Group members have higher expectations on inputs support and resources currently may not allow. There is poor attitude of some community members to tap innovative projects.
Our great thanks go to War on Want Uganda country programme. We also extend our thanks to the line departments of Amuria and Katakwi district especially the production department for their support. Finally we thank the Uganda National NGO Forum for recognizing our efforts to reach the community.
Our organization is a community based initiative dedicated to reach a great number of communities living in absolute poverty; we therefore call upon any partner to join us in the struggle for the attainment of our planned objectives.
