This was as a result of domestic violence, human rights violation, conflicts and the flow of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) from Teso, Karamoja fugitive of those wars. At that time, many IDPs came to Bugisu to take refugee. As a result, there was too much pressure on resources as everybody fought for a share. This created tension among indigenous people around. Therefore the network was formed to act as a consortium where all CSOs in Bugisu could work together to address this challenge. BUCINET was formed by individuals from different CSOs that where operating in Bugisu, who saw the need for forming such a platform of networking, partnership building, documentation and information exchange among others. At present, BUCINET is devoted to policy advocacy, lobbying, research, information dissemination, networking and partnerships for sharing information, skills and capacity building on good governance.
BUCINET receives support from DANIDA to implement the following activities: • Engagement with local leaders on human rights and good governance • Capacity building of CSOs to advocate and lobby for human rights and good governance • Sensitization meetings on human rights and good governance • Awareness campaign through radios on human rights and good governance All this is done with technical support from DRT as process facilitators
BUCINET collaborates with Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the media and Mbale district local government.
BUCINET recently acquired funding from National NGO Forum to implement a citizen manifesto programme which helps to create a responsible citizenry to demand political accountability.
